Chapter Goals

• Increase the number of Latino students pursing engineering and science
• Provide counseling and financial assistance to Latino students pursuing engineering and science
• Improve educational and employment opportunities for Latinos in engineering and science
• Ensure that schools of high Latino population have access to technology
• Promote the professional advancement and development of Latinos
• Promote the professional advancement of Latina women in engineering and science

SHPE Fresno Chapter History

A number of Fresno Latino professional engineers saw the need for an organization such as SHPE in the Fresno area. They applied and received entry into SHPE in 1987. The interim Professional Board consisted of Raul Garcia Jr. as President and Rudy Garcia as V.P. Secretary was Miguel Hidalgo and Treasurer, Luis Herrera. Gus Lerma, Region 1 V.P. at the time, was instrumental in helping Fresno build a strong foundation. Personal congratulations calls came in from Richard Jimenez, Rodrigo Garcia, and Ricardo Pinos who were part of the founders of SHPE Professional in 1974.
